I just turned 18000 miles on my 06 Coupe and my MPG jumped from about 15/17 MPG to 20.5 MPG..I haven't changed my driving habits nor changed anything in the car.I am not complaining, just curious if the car is just broke in or what.Is this a common occurance with Vettes. Rod
well you must be still looking at the DIC to tell you what your MPG is try it with a pencil and paper and you will be surprized! that being said YES! as the car breaks in and gets to "know" you the mpg gets better!
Is there a possibility that you used 10 percent ethanol gas and maybe the last time u checked milage that u had 100 percent gas? It would account for 2 or 3 MPG
Nice jump. I always calculate mileage based on trip odo, and fill the car to first shutoff click at the pump.
My DIC reads about one or two miles per gallon low, versus my calculated mileage.
10% ethanol will not account for a 2-3 MPG swing, in my experience. Maybe a 2-3% mpg difference, but so far I've not been able to measure any difference in mileage with a 10% ethanol blend.
As cars break in, everything improves: power, 1/4 times/speed and MPGs. I believe somewhere between 5 and 10k miles (depending on engine), most of the break-in is over and the engine is probably at 99.90% of its peak lifetime power.
The engine will continue to break-in, which in the case on the LS-X engines, it's the copper level that remains medium-high. Right around 40-50k miles, all wear metals fully stabilize; and provided all else is good, will stay at these levels for the life of the engine. I think at this age (40-50k miles) is when the engine produces 100% of its power potential.
So anyway, your mileage will continue to get better peaking at around 40-50k miles and remain there for the life of the engine.......of course provided all else is the same.

EDIT: My DIC by the way was right on the money last time I checked my MPGs......exactly 19.5 MPGs in the city.
