I am about to do a roll bar to conform with the NHRA rules. Is a fire extinguisher required for 11.49 or quicker? Some say I need one and some say I don't. I looked around and couldn't get an answer.
does it need to be a particular kind? i found some cool black chrome fire ext with the jake skull c6r logo...also does it need to be placed in certain spot?
I would suggest getting a "clean agent" type. Leaves no residue on your engine should you ever need it. Make sure it has a large enough volume to be effective. 2 1/2 lbs is the common size, but if I buy another one I might go larger just to be prepared. I have seen people's cars bun while they stood helpless (more than once.)

Several sports are common. As shown in my above post, on floor in front
of passenger seat mounted to seat rails with a bracket. Another place is on your roll bar, but I'd be hesitant to suspend it up in the air like that; could become a projectile in an accident.
A fire extinguisher is not required but is recommended per the 2008 rule book, unless you are running in the higher classes. It must be securely mounted and cannot use flip open type clamps.
I think a fire extinguisher is a must in any car. A good friend and fellow CF member, Dominic (DOMSCOM) experienced the horror first hand that will always keep an extinguisher in his car, as there will always be one in mine. Hopefully, no one will ever need it.
