Default DIY on clutch replacement

It is more out of curiousity than a need.

I've seen the thread of someone doing it on jack stand and having to remove the whole rear-end /transmission.

My thoughts were, can't you just pull the motor out?

be great if someone could explain it to me if that's even possible.

is it an easy task deffinately not!

but yes it could be done on jackstands but will take some room since you need to take off the tranny and torque tube along with the rear end diff also.

not for the weak of heart DIY installer

I am on my 3rd clutch and all were changed on jackstands. Its an 8 hour job the second time around so the first timer should allow 10-12.

The rear diff can be separated from the driveline but its easier to just have 2 guys for the install and remove it all as an assembly. The bell housing requires the top bolts be accessible from the engine side so the intake manifold has to come off to.

The C5 had a two peice bell housing negating this last issue but GM chose to do away with it for the one part bell housing on our fine automobiles.

Those with slip fit headers.....two tylenol prior to starting the install.

ok, so you guys are telling me you can't yank the motor out for this?
I'm a little confuse as to why you have to go from the back of the car if you can yank the motor out and access it that way...
