Default Automatic with shift problems

My 08 automatic slams into 3rd gear even at low speeds! It's like someone popped the clutch. 3,000 miles, just started tonight on the way home. Anyone have any ideas? I have the LT3 package with paddle shift. Have not used the paddle shift yet.

You are not alone. There are a "few posts" (very few) in here on the subject, not much on a remedy.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2100568

I had the rearend service done, had no affect at all. The threads I read refer to some seals that need to be replaced in the tranny. Somehow I'm really not thrilled about major surgery on my very new car so I'm holding off until all other ideas are exhausted.

My dealer is doing some research to see what else can be done. I also heard other 6 speed automatics have the same sickness, even on some Fords. To me its a programming issue, and until GM figures out a fix we suffer. I would say the banging in gear and severe hesitation is a dangerous thing and could cause an accident if you don't know how to control it. And I'm not interested in getting it tuned and voiding warrantees. GM needs to make good on it. I'll get a tune because I want to, not to fix a GM problem.

Oddly - this forum has very little info on it, no one seems to be making a big deal about it. It's much more widespread than you think, yet not too many complaints here.

Default Hard Shifts

I agree. I was very surprised that I got only one response, yours, to my question.

Is this an 08 A6 problem? I know GM redid the trans computer control for 08, just wondering if this is the cause of the problems. My 06 A6 which was the first year for the A6 has only had one glitch which was not shifting with the paddles from 2-3 gear but that was once and has not happened again.

Hopefully Chuck COW can respond to this and shed some light for you guys.

The only thing I can recommend is try using the paddles and see if the shift is still the same.

I've found driving in S mode and liberal use of the Accelerator helps. (Non Paddle usage - just S)

What you guys are experiencing is called Torque management and Hunting associated with Fuel economy. S helps alot in my opinion. I wish they had an O.D. lockout and I could really live with this Tranny. I have not gotten a Tune yet but I plan on it in December.

Mistaking this transmission for smooth operating is a mistake. Somehow in a 4spd we expect it to be rough but in a 6speed auto we expect it to drive like a luxury car.

Good luck getting GM to fix that in a "sports car"

Listen to the forum advice and get a Tune... You obviously did about "voiding your warranty"

I appreciate your advice but my 5 year 60k extended warrantee is worth way too much to just give away. Like I said, I will someday get a tune because I want to not to fix a GM problem that they should be addressing.

Besides the shifting issues have been around long enough, if tuners already are able to fix it, what takes GM so long? Pretty crappy response for a $50k car - their flagship...pride and joy. Makes you wonder !

Default GM 6 speed automatic trans fix - document ID: 2180379

Guys - just a FYI ; GM#PIP4395B: Flare and or harsh 2-3 shift ( Aug. 20, 2008)
According to GM - vehicles built in the January through August 2007 timeframe are more likely to have leaking fluid seal rings. The 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-R clutch fluid seal rings should be replaced. Parts are currently on back order.

Hello guys,

I followed CHEVTECH's advice and took my 2008 C6 coupe to my dealership with a print of the above info. They fixed the problem by replacing the seals as described; that took care of the problem. I agree that this problem should not even occur in a car priced like ours, but at least GM is taking care of it. I am very happy with the fix. My targa top roof noises will hopefully be the next warranty fix.

Good luck

AMazing finding this here. I have this problem with my 07 denali. It definately falls into the time period built 6-19-07. However they replaced the valve body. Still does it. I will bring it in and show him the GM # on it. I must be lucky with my 07 corvette because it shifts like a cadillac!!!! SMOOTH as silk. The denali sometimes slams so hard I feel like my teeth are going to fall out!! Thanks everyone

the only problem I've had w/ my "08" A6 is after some hard driving in paddle or "S" mode the trany is reluctant to shift into 6 on the highway. I chalk this up to the computer trying to relearn my driving habits.

Default Yes, I'm aware....

Yes, I'm aware of some "build issues" with A6 transmissions.....

DO NOT get a tune until the problem is fixed cause then, it's all too easy to lay blame on the tuner when he did nothing wrong.

The A6 is a great trans with very few problems....but, while the problems are few and far between....it sucks when it hits home and it's your ride!

I'll be in Texas at VARARAM this winter....Watch for the post.
