Default Transmission Questions?

Ok, I tried searching the forums and couldn't find excalty what I was looking for, so im sorry if this has been talked about and I just missed it. These are probally consider dumb questions, but im not as knowlegdable about Corvettes as I am other cars. First question is what is the difference between A4 and a A6. Second, what are C6 6 speed geared at? I think its 3.43, but I wanted to make sure. 3rd, how much horsepower can the stock tranny take, I've seen people say around 500-600 hp at the wheel. And last, where would be a good place to buy a good, good price, strong transmission that could mabye handle up to 650hp. I am planning to get up to 600-650rwhp. So if the stock trans could take that, I'll be alright. But if not, I'll just have to wait till that one goes out and put in one that can handle the power. Thanks alot for info, I apologize again for such simple questions. I tried looking for anwsers.

A4 is 4 spd automatic trans
A6 is 6 spd automatic trans
C6 gears depend on the trans; Auto gets from 2.56 to 3.15 depending on year and options, all Manual trans get 3.42 gears.
650HP tranny will require stronger differential and axles also, check with the Forum Vendors.

With 650 horsepower, I'm assuming you mean rwhp but if not it's still quite a bit, a stock auto tranny will be on borrowed time. That's even a lot for a manual but they seem to be holding up better than the autos. The A6 trans is stronger stock for stock than the A4 trans however the A4 has a huge aftermarket so it can be built up. The A6 aftermarket is slow in coming to the table with stronger options. First and foremost if you're planning on throwing that much power at the driveline, is to upgrade the rear and axles. The '08+ case seems to be the strongest in the C6 line while the '05 is the weakest. The '06/07 are pretty durable but not as strong as the '08+. A popular option for the '05 is to upgrade back actually to a C5 diff which is stronger. Both driver and passenger side axles should be upgraded as well. Take note though that wheel hop can/will still destroy your dif/axles/trans if it's allowed to continue too often. For this your best bet is the right set of tires and a possible shock change. It's also wise to invest in a DTE dif brace. What this will do is save your transmission in case your dif does decide to explode.

Anyway we can better assist you if you offer up some more information. Year of the car, intended goals with it. ie: drag race, road race, street, etc. How do you plan on achieving your power goals, budget, etc.

I have a modified 2008 Coupe, headers, corsa exhaust, Procharger

the trans does fine, if fact procharger says to leave it alone, I think they tweaked the computer a bit

My guy limited the power to the rear wheel b/c of the differential

Good luck, you will love it

I try to keep the rpm's no higher than 5500, the wheels just can;t hold anything more anyway

Thanks alot for info. Here is more info on my goals and the car. 2006 C6 A6 Z51 package. Want to make at least 600rwhp. Car will be mainly street car and sometimes taken to the drag strip. Plan on putting on a A & A Supercharger at some point in time. Then cam/headers/exhaust/ect. Don't won't to change heads if I don't have to.
