when you had your car tuned did the tuner put a bung/fitting on the top of the cat? the guy i went to wouldn't tune it without the fitting, charged $100.00 to put it on, anyone else do this?
That sounds obsurd to make you pay 100 dollars to do that.
How much was the full amount for the tune? Unless it was a dirt cheap before that... I don't see why someone would make you pay 100 dollars to do that.
On my stock LS3 manifold there is no room so I asked the same thing and the overwhelming response was weld the bung at the top of the cat. Now, $100 to do that, the tune had better be cheap. Just out of curiosity, where exactly did he weld the bung on top of the cat? Got a picture? Thanks.

I just looked at the bill, it was $17.99 for the bung and the plug and $85.00 to install it. he put it on the top of the cat right next to where the pipe goes in from the manifold{ I think on the topside where you can reach it from the top} The tune was not cheap! Infact I think they got in my pants, I even brought the soft ware of which their a dealer, their equipment had a glitch and they charged me while they figured it out and the hurried the tune to get me out of there! I have finally settled down enough to write them an e-mail and see if they are going to do anything to make it better! and if they don't I will let you know who they are
Yes the bung has to go on top of the cat. There is an air space at the top of the cat before the actual catalyst honey comb starts.
$100 is not totally out of line considering to do it neatly I removed the cat to drill and weld the bung on and then had to put it back on. I assume your tuner did the same. That involves some time/labor. My stainless bung was around $15.
Consider that when I called one of the popular forum header mfg to get a quote on a set of long tubes they wanted $60 extra to weld a bung on them for me before they shipped. The mfg I ended up ordering from welded one on for free. Some mfg are hungry to please customers and some just want to milk you!
I don't want to fault a guy for his profit, I was just wondering/ the whole tune experience with this tuner was a nightmare! to say the least, he says it was not his fault but he wants to give me two free hours on the dyno, I'm not sure what I'm going to do?
Can't say because I wasn't there, but it does sound like he's trying to make it right and recognizes (now, after your email) that it wasn't a good experience for you. Does that sound correct; I am guessing by what you just wrote?
