Default Engine removal tips/help?

So my buddy hopped in my car the other night and took it to the store. When he returned the engine now has a nasty knock and I need to pull it to determine what exactly has gone wrong. I've been pushing 590HP on stock internals for about 10k miles know and wasn't overly surprised that something broke but think it may be due to the fact that he was beating on the car while motor was cold... Anybody pulled an engine on one of these before? I have access to a lift and would appreciate anybody's tips/suggestions... Thanks

I pulled mine out the top with all the accessories on, radiator still in and mounted, and with the flywheel/propeller hub still attached. It was a very tight fit this way, but it will come out. You will have to have an engine leveler.

Default Engine removal

So you just unbolted the driveshaft from the flywheel and unbolted the motor mounts? Were you able to leave the AC compressor with the car and not lose freon? Thanks for the info!

Pretty much. The driveshaft input is splined, so it just slides into the hub on the flywheel. There is a clamp that has to be loosened before it will slide off.

Also, I removed the power steering line at the top/center of the steering rack. The motor has to come forward almost immediately to slide off of the driveshaft and the balancer hit it.

I want to say again that it is a real tight fit, especially at the top of the cowl, but it will come out. If it wasn't for the extra length of the flywheel/propellor shaft hub, it would be a piece of cake.

I didn't try. The A/C lines were already empty for unrelated reasons, so I just removed the lines from the back of the compressor. If you need to leave yours, you can remove the compressor by removing the three bolts and one nut holding it on.

If you have access to a lift, most say droping the lower subframe with the engine still attached is by far the easiest way to do this.

I've done it both ways many times. PM me with specific questions. Not too bad a job.

I built a box with casters(for ease of mobility) to support the engine, and dropped the car down until the engine met the box, then removed all attachments and raised the car slowly until the drivetrain was down at working height.

Granted, I pulled the whole drivetrain(which is easier than you might think) but you can do just the engine with a box like this.

First thing you should do is give your buddy a beating. Then have him pay for the pain in the *** job to fix it.

Just got done pulling mine from the top. A little effort but it will come out. Not sure it would be any quicker coming out the bottom, but maybe easier. Go to Cajundude website for complete howto on pulling from top. Good luck.

PS - You were living on the ragged edge with stock internals, but I would still guilt your friend into donating free labor

He definately will be there for free labor if he likes it or not! I know I'm on the edge and that's the only reason I wasn't overly mad at him for it -plus it's time for some forged stuff and a smaller charger pulley so all in all I'm kinda excited
