Did a mild cam and LT's and when letting the engine idle for extended periods the #8 exhaust or intake (haven't pin pointed which yet) starts clicking like the lifter is bleeding down. Stop the car wait a minute then start again and no problems. This becomes more of an issue when fully warmed up. Anybody else have this problem?
Valve train noise is extremly common after a cam. Mine was just recently cammed and hasnt stopped ticking since. My buddies car has been cammed for a while and it always ticks. Im pretty sure its normal and just takes some getting used to.
its strange since its limited to one valve only but the rest has the proper "sewing machine" sound that is getting quieter as the miles go by. Just hoping that theres not a weak lifter since nothing was planned for the heads for a month or two.
IMO, the car shouldn't make much more noise than it did stock. My car is barely louder with the cam, valvetrain wise, than it was stock. Listen to my idle video when I walk up to the front of the car -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16Yn34vuhC0
If you have properly sized pushrods and correct preload on the lifter, there really shouldn't be any ticking, but more or less "chatter" from the valves and the usual sewing machine noise.
Edit: My cam is a larger one as well. 231/243 .617/.623 115LSA on LSL lobes
Damn noise keeps getting worse. Sounds like a lifter is bleeding down too fast. Cold start no problem starts getting warm then it comes in quickly and wont go away. Its not ticking hard as if the plunger is bottoming out but its just louder than acceptable.
^ This is a possibility. C4forlife, check your header gaskets for any leaks. Otherwise, I would really replace you lifters with new ones ASAP. If one is indeed bleeding down, it will eventually crack and probably get stuck in its bore, upon which it will more than likely completely destroy your engine. New lifters are like $160 for a set.
