Default Tune after CAI installation

I recently installed a "true" Cold Air Induction (requiring a shroud cut). Mine is the Vortex Rammer, but my question is applicable to the other true CAI's such as the Callaway Honker or the Vararam. My question is whether it is worth the expense to now get a tune. Will the H.P. gain that I have received thus far (whatever it is) be signigicantly improved by going ahead now and getting a tune to take advantage of the increased air flow?

If anyone who has made a similar change has any specific documented figures showing gains of just the CAI vs gain of CAI + Tune, I would appreciate your input. I have heard one local opinion that adding a CAI without a tune barely adds any H.P. because the computer tends to over-rich the fuel mixture to compensate for the additional air and a tune is needed to lean it out to optimum. I don't know if this is so or not. So please input your experience.

Thanks. Incidentally, my installation is on the LS2 engine of my 06 Manual Coupe.

You will gain at least 10 RWHP at the lower range and mid 20's in the upper RPM range at speeds above 50 MPH with a tune. I don't have any hard evidence on paper but just know from my own car that (has the Halltech CAI and I tuned it myself) the difference was big.

after getting a tune done on my car which is basically stock. i would say get the tune done if you do not plan on any other mods in the near future. you can definatly feel the difference on the *** dyno, plus with a tune you can eliminate things like the skip shift, as well as i guess some kind of limp mode your car goes into after you break traction?? my tuner told me he turned mine off i got my tune done for free (had to pay some 100$ to unlock my vin but next time it wont cost a dime).

What do you mean by unlocking your vin? and what does your tuner normally charge for a tune?
