Default '05 Using Oil

Hello,
I have an '05 with 21k that I've noticed is using oil the past 6-7k or so. I'm not driving it hard at all, though the times when I have gone on a road trip and done some vigorous driving I've noticed the level seemed to be a tad lower afterwards. Right now I've gone about 2200 miles since the last change and the oil is almost at the bottom of the hashes on the stick (when cold). Also note that the dealer that replaced the oil last time filled it well above the normal level, I'd say it was 1/2 qt overfilled.

Prvs posts have said 1 qt every 2k miles or so was deemed acceptable but this looks to be a tad more..should I be concerned? It's a Z51 model, if the oil cooler might make a difference..

Some have reported adding a catch can on the PCV line reduces oil consumption.

The cost to eliminate oil consumption of 1 quart every 2000 miles is not worth it. I assume there is no affect on the power.

There are generally three possible routes for oil consumption:

It may be leaking. Easy to confirm. Look at the area you park and/or inspect the lower side of the car.

It may be pulling the oil down through the intake valve guides. This is the most common. It is usually because of bad valve stem seals under the intake valve springs or worn valve guides.

It may be getting around the rings. This can happen in a low mileage car if there is mechanical damage (broken piston ring rail) or if the car sat for an extended period and developed corrosion (rust) on the cylinder walls or rings.

If you have an extended warranty, I would have it checked.

If you keep the car another 3 years and double your mileage, the cost in oil will be, what, 10-15 quarts? That's not a high price to pay.

If you have good power, pass emissions, and don't have visible leaks, it doesn't amount to anything, unless you let it run low.

Thanks guys.
It's not a big deal to me unless it's an indication that something's really wrong. I haven't found it leaking, so what worries me is if it could be one of the above since I'm out of warranty. I have planned on keeping it a long time
As far as power goes I don't really have anything to compare it too, but it doesn't feel lacking..lol. I did buy it used w/around 4k miles in '06 so it's possible it could have been abused. Maybe I should get it dynoed?

My car also burns oil and from what I have read here it is no big deal. I just check the oil once in a while and top up as required. I only have 24000 kms on mine.

The LS2 is a notorious oil burner. You'd be shocked if you looked into your intake tb opening and saw the amount of oil pooled in the intake manifold. Catch cans help with that, but won't help with oil consumption issues.

Glad it's the ls-2! The ls-1's ls-6,and now the ls-3 aren't using any.
Stop using mobile one and switch to a different syn oil. That was the trick for me!

I know some guys on the gto board that were able to get their shortblocks replaced under warranty due to excessive oil consumption. I can't remember what the amount was to get a replacement, but the dealer would first monitor how much then replace. I also heard of a couple of guys that blew their engines when they weren't vigilant in keeping tabs.

My LS3 hasn't used a drop.

Did they ever say if it were caused by something at fault?
I guess from what I've read I'm leaning towards mine being considered within the norm, but there's still a nagging feeling of
