Default Cam Done: Straightline Performance Review

Hi all:

Well I took these guys up on their cam deal, and had the work done on my 2006 A6 coupe last Friday-Saturday. Here is my take. As far as the new cam, and the tune that went with it, I could not be happier. However, I should add that due to weather here in Chicago, I have not been able to give it a "proper" road test yet. But that is not the part that is most interesting to me. We are fortunate here in that there are several quite competent "speed shops" in the area. I have used another before these guys. What I found really interesting was the attitude of both Mike and Nick. They did not seem to approach this as a "job to be done", but almost as a higher mission to be accomplished. They came across not just as being enthused about what they did, but almost passionate. To say that they are personable does not quite cover it. They not only were happy to answer my questions, but almost seemed to relish in the discussion. Saturday I was at their shop watching the tune. Mike was delighted to explain every part of the process with their Mustang dyno. (At the end of the day, with both an initial baseline dyno and final, I did pick up 30 hp.) In summation, I would strongly recommend these guys, and look forward to an ongoing relationship with them. (Nick volunteered to give me some pointers at the dragstrip.)

Thanks to everyone on this forum who gave me great advice and help in this process.

Mike is a really great guy. He was initially responsible for my former best time of 11.479 (through tuning, which was done 100% remotely by the way) and has always answered any questions I've had while pursuing the 10's.

I'd be interested in hearing more about your car once you get to spend some time in it. Especially since you have the A6 with a cam. Please share more info on this when you get a chance to get some seat time in it.

Thanks George for your kind words. It was a pleasure talking to you Saturday as well. Here's the video of your car on the dyno. . .

p.s.

Chris,

I haven't had a chance to look at those scans you sent last week, but I'll get to them today.
