"If your vehicle has an automatic transmission, you will need to cut the right side over
axle pipe about 4” away from the factory band clamp toward the muffler. This is not
necessary for the left side or standard transmission vehicles."
Can enyone explain wye this has to be done. There is nothing in the instruktion abaut welding it together again.
I don't know about the A6 but the cutting is for the 05 A4.
You can get it off without cutting, by bending one of the tabs out of the way, but its much easier just to cut the stock pipe if you don't have plans to use the stockers again.
You don't have to weld anything on the new pipes (unless you want to weld the slip fit connections). On the stocker, the muffler and over axle pipe is one, prohibiting you from removing it on the A4. On the flowmaster, they are two pieces. You put the over axle pipe in first then the muffler follows.
The cutting is for the a4 not sure about the a6. The way the stock pipe is shaped you cant get it out without cutting it. The flow's pips is seperate from the muffler so it will slide right in. You wont need to re-weld the old stock ones if your not using them.
