you'll need an 18mm wrench or socket, a 15 mm wrench or socket, and a T30 or T40 (can't remember which) torx bit, and a torque wrench that included 40 to 70 pounds.
the back is easy... you just need to get the back tires a foot off the ground and you can get at everything.
the front is a little more difficult to reach. a lift is best, but you need probably 2 feet off the ground to get at everything easily.
if you do make the swap, Z51 is stiffer than base but not beat-you-to-death rough. I would also highly recommend you track down some polyurethane bushings for the bars.... the stock bushings you would get from Culley or any GM supplier are sloppy rubber. poly bushings are only $30 for a full set. the grease for these is nasty but effective. the bushings will squeek without the grease.

I switched to Z51 bars, on my 07, F55, and there is a very noticeable difference. It really tightened up, the feel, through corners. - Easy, at home, swap, and cost less than $200. -- I believe the torx is a 40. Hold the link with the torx, and loosen the nut. If you spin the link, with the torx, you may loosen the link, in the joint, and it will result in a clunking noise, when on the road. -- --
I have the Pfadt bushings on my '08 Z51 with stock sways. I just purchased a set of Hotchkis sways, new end links, and new Pfadt bushings. Want a slightly stiffer ride around corners.
The sway bars will not make the car ride rougher, they will make it corner better with less body roll. I put z51 bars on my car and say a big difference. Now I am thinking of going to z06 rear bar for a little less bodyroll.
I have a base 08, and put on Hotchkiss front and rears, and run the car in timetrials and autocrosses. I like the roll resistance, but the end link holes (which match the factory) are too big. I hand made a .02 bushing but they still rattle a little. If anybody can tell me what they did to overcome this I would appreciate it (end links?). I need some decent shocks and maybe more spring, plus brakes that will keep up. I added Porterfield R4s pads but still have soft pedal issues. I will get some SS brake lines to see if this is the problem.
Also-they are easy to install if you have two floor jacks to match up the end-links with the holes in the bars. DON"T take the weight off the rear wheels when you tighten down the suspension bolts (hold the poly bushings), I did and it binds the steel insert bushings and toes in the rear wheels. In 600 miles my rear tires were gone. The Nitto NT01 are a lot better than the run-craps anyway.
