Default 2005 Air filter Change?

OK, I have searched the forums and read the owners manual word for word about changing the engine air filter elements. The owners manual says to unlatch the stainless clips & move them up top, out of the way. It next says to push the filter housing forward, then remove the filters.

I am 6'1" and 225 lbs, and work hard every day, but there is no such thing as simply pushing the housing forward. I can lift it up a little bit, so that I can see the filter elements, but there is no where near enough clearance to remove them. A large screwdriver, prybar, or the old trusty computer hammer just seems out of place for this task.

Do I need to remove the intake hose from the MAF meter, and the plastic clips on the radiator support?

Thanks in advance for telling me what the General saved ink by not printing!

I have Vararam so it's been a while but no need to remove anything. They pop right out.

Unlatch the two clips and pull the filter with it's plastic housing toward the rear. It will pull right out.

Thanks for the reply my friend!

These filter elements will definitely not just pop or slide right out. I might be able to rip them out with a pair of Vice Grips, but my hands alone will not remove them unless more clearance is gained. The filters are about 1.5 - 2" thick, and at this point, they are going to have to slide through a .25 - .5" space.

m4coyote,

Sorry if this is redundant. When you unlatch the two metal clips, grasp them with your hand and pull the clips to the rear. The plastic housing the clips are attached to, along with the filter, will pull out. Repeat the procedure for the other side.

Thanks guys! Got it done.

Nowhere in the owners manual did it mention pulling the housing and filter to the rear. It says to push forward on the filter housing and then remove the filters.

Whoever wrote the air filter maintenance part of the manual had never seen or touched this filter set up.
