Default MAF Help

I have an 05 and just pulled my MAF off and ported it. I was very careful not to disturb the filaments. I then air blew it out and used MAF Cleaner on it. I also removed the bisquit. I started it up and it didn't want to stay running and Runs rough. After a couple of starts runs ok. Meanwhile I get a check engine light. So I pull the harness connector off and cleaned it while running. It didn't seem to make any difference (while ideling). I then hooked it up drove it and it shifted hard into second gear. Should I notice a difference (while ideling) when I unplug the MAF connector? Is there any correlation between the MAF and the transmission shifting?
Thanks.

The MAF table is scaled to the stock MAF and tuning is required when you change airflow. If the codes you got are for airflow, the MAF needs to be replaced with a stock untouched unit or tuned in for the modded unit. The later isnt hard but it is time consuming.

If you dont have the means to tune it, your MAF port will not work.

I have another MAF for you if you cant get it working and are too far from me for me to tune it (free for the tune too).

All I ask is a donation to St Judes.

PM for the MAF.

I dont understand why so many times a disconnected battery gets recomended for airflow changes that result in codes due to tune discrepencies. There isnt anything wrong in the CEL lighting up when the tune is wrong. Resetting the CL doesnt tune the car and airflow mods ALL need to be tuned in.....headers, airclearner assemblies, headers, exhausts, headers, MAF's, headers....all need a tune. In fact, the CEL not lighting up doesnt mean the tune is ok either. It means its within 24% of optimum....not a good tolerance if you ask me.The car is likely running too lean at idle (rough) and much richer now at WOT (dirty).

All this talk about rough and dirty got me interested. The absolute best way to troubleshoot is to reinstall a stock maf and see what happens. Then go back to the modded one and try and tune. Pull the codes, that will go a long way to helping diagnose a prob. Air related probably tune, others can indicate a botched maf.
