I don't know! I do know that for the C-5's, the mileage is indeed stored in the IP Cluster and the BCM instructs it to update once per mile traveled, via the interface buss. Its a good bet that GM didn't change that since it works real well but truly, I don't know.
Just curious about your need for a speedo cluster. Why? Are you replacing via warranty? If you have no choice and must replace - let us know if mileage transfers.
Well, to be completely honest, I'm building my own C6 from scratch and when I say scratch, that's what I mean. I bought a theft recovery coupe and I bought a drivetrain with only 5k miles on it but the speedo was trashed but I have the BCM. I know I can put another cluster in and I have a good one here, but I would prefer to reflect the correct mileage.
Why dont you call GM and ask?
All the time you wasted on here to post and then bump your thread several times and still didnt get any answer I think a simple phone call might have been justified!
The cluster holds the mileage data and GM will have to verify your data and program cluster to your VIN. I've repaired several crashed cars just the same.
Yep, cluster stores that information. I have a cluster with about 18,000 miles on it. I was going to use it in my flood car, but found a deal on a cluster with 7000 miles on it. Still got ripped though, since the car only had 65 miles on it.
I have a buddy that helped me and he is a technician at a Chevy dealership. I asked him about changing the mileage to reflect what was really on my car and he said it wasn't worth all the red tape.
Next time you can't get any answers, feel free to PM. I may not always see it.
Thanks guys. I was afraid of that. I know it's an act of congress just to get a key for the car. I'm not about to try to verify ownership of two different cars and the mileage! I guess I will deal with the odometer being wrong and keep a record of actual miles. Thanks for all the help!
