recommended STP oil filters for my '07. So my first oil change got an STP filter. Did I listen to the right people?

I've never heard anything bad about STP filters, I wouldn't worry about it.

Did the Zone say that Andy Granatelli approved it? If so, you listened to the right folks.

If no, next time stick to the oem AC-Delco or go K&N HP-1007 like I do for my '07

I am amazed at how many brands of filters they have. I was really confused so I defaulted to AC-Delco.

Check out WIX filters through my Amsoil link. Excellent product.

Generally speaking the clowns behind the counter at Autozone are clueless. My experience has been that they can look up a part number on the computer correctly about 4 out of every 10 attempts! I'd do my own research before taking any recommendation from some guy making $7.50 an hour at "The Zone" !

No. STP filters are cheap junk. Best off the shelf at AZ would be the M1 filter (top quality synthetic). Wix is good too for a paper filter (sold at NAPA). Amsoil is the best, IMO. The new AC/Delco Ultraguard used on the ZR1 could be considered one of the best too, but I'm not sure if they make a version for the LS2 yet.

For the LS2 - you can use the AC/Delco Ultraguard GM part number 12626224.

I like Delco myself..but in all honesty it is likely not the kind of decision you spend a lot of brain power on. Most will work fine.

I switched to WIX after I had problems with the gasket on an ACDelco filter leaking. WIX is a good filter and I have never had a gasket leak.
I think for awhile, Delco (and maybe others) tried to make the threaded end plate thinner and it would deform and eventually leak under stress.
