I have an 05 with Z51 Package and 6 speed manual trans. I recently had a dead battery and had to charge it overnight to get it to start. The battery was only a little more than a year old. It's a GM replacement.
Now when I drive the car I get a message "Service Active Handling System" and the little yellow car emblem goes on. When I stop and shut the car down the warning goes away. It's never happened before my dead battery and now it does it almost everytime I drive it. If I put the car in Competitive Handling Mode it doesn't happen. Only when I have it in normal driving range.
Could the dead battery had something to do with it or is it time to take to the shop. I do have a GMPP extended warranty but I don't want them guessing.
Is there a way to pull a code from the car without going to the dealership. I have been thinking about buying a OBD as all my vehicles now have computer on them and the newest is my Vette.
Thanks in advance for any help and a Happy New Year to all
check your spark plug wires that happened to mine and one of the spark plug wires were coming off the coil packs and when I pushed it back on everything went away. just a thought.
There is a wire harness connector inside the steering column that can become loose and throw this message. GM has a bulletin out on this and they should fix it. The fix requires a nylon zip tie and abot 10 minutes.
I've done a lot of research on this topic and am convinced it's the SWPS connector at the base of the steering column. Now if i can only get the cover off and locate the connector. If not I will just take it back to the dealership. It's just a pain going back and letting them fiddle with my baby. It never fails, when they touch it something else goes wrong with it. I paid for a GM Protection Plan and guess I should use it
