Default Solid Service Engine Light Question

Saturday I noticed a solid check engine light and with what I know about the gas cap being loose being a likely cause I checked there first. It was in fact loose. I tightened it and no change. Is this normal until another fill-up or should I have it looked at immediately.
I don't seem to be having any other issues other than the light being on.
On a side note, I have not had the new gas cap installed as per the recall because I hadn't had an issue til now.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Is your gas cap loose? You will hear it click on but when you pull on it the cap will come right off. Quick fix, just put a lubricant on the rubber gasket and the cap will be good to go.

I believe that the code/ck eng lite will disappear after 3 or 4 days of diving if it was indeed the gas cap. If I'm wrong, fifty or so other forum members will point out the error of my ways.

It was loose and I tightened it immediately, hence my question of how long should it continue to stay on if indeed that was the problem. It would have helped if I spoke English the first time. Thank you for your input......come on 3 or 4 days!!

You can buy a code reader for <$70, read and clear the codes yourself.

I had a bad cap and it took 3 days for the code to go away. I could have cleared it with HP, but I just wanted to see what happened. At first I thought I didn't fix it, but after reading up on it, saw it takes several days to clear.
