Default Z06 muffler mod question???

Hey all, I'm thinking of having the muffler mod done on my Z06 mufflers to make them louder, the question is does it make it louder only when the butterflies are open, or all the time? And how much louder does it make them, I've heard 25%?

What mod to the muffler are you contemplating?

Sorry, should have explained. The mod where you cut the side of the muffler open and cover the perforated section of tubing.

Don't know, but I think it would be louder and all the time, since you would be bypassing the butterflies by your description.

I have a set of Z06 pulloffs coming for my '07 and I plan on doing the mod, including pulling the glass pack from it.

I suspect it is going to be louder on both the butterflies open and closed sides but I'll let ya know (gonna be around 2 weeks however before I get the mod done and get them installed)

By the way, the OP is talking about this type of mod (there are a couple ways to do it but the result is the same)

Since the primary difference between the Z06 and the npp is perforated pipe vs straight pipe, shouldn't the modified Z06 sound pretty close to the npp if you put the glass pack back in?

Once the pipe is welded shut the glass packing really doesn't have much affect, plus the NPP's have perforated exhaust tips which makes a little different tone. I would prefer the NPP's but the modded Z06 mufflers are cheaper

The Z06's that have the mod and the NPP's sound pretty much identical. I have ran both on my car and really couldnt tell much difference between the two ( modded Z06's vs NPP's) . I currently have the modded Z06's one my car.

Now the B&B Fusions on the other hand, they are louder all the way around, open and closed. Much louder than the NPP or Z06 with the mod.

Yeah, I've had the modded Z06s on my car for a couple of weeks and I'm kinda surprised at how quiet they are. I hooked up the Mild2Wild last weekend, but probably wouldn't have felt the need except for the drone at 14-1500 rpm. I like the deep sound but really expected the Zs to be louder.

With the Z06 muffler mod & M2W retro kit, they sound stock with the valves closed and no drone. They are much louder and drone with the valves open.

At the Valley Vettes GTG yesterday I heard the muffler mod with the M2W which is definitely louder, but if you want a deep muscle car sound this just won't do it.

The best sounding Z06 I've heard was in October at the Laguna Seca ALMS race weekend when I was Dick Guldstrand's passenger in a parade lap. His Katech engined 427 with headers and Flowmaster mufflers sounded fantastic, much deeper than mine with its Bullets or a Katech Z with Corsas that I've heard at this GTG.

I did the mod. Sounds great i think. Idle is more crisp and you can hear the cam alittle more and on throttle it sounds much different and better. I like it all around. for the money cant beat it. Definately recommend it to anyone!
