Default Blank DRR/Nav Screen

Has anyone come across this problem. 2008 C6-Z06 with 3000 miles. Every thing was fine up until I put her to sllep for the winter. Went to start the engine last night and the following happened.

Normally when I start the car or turn on accessories the screen comes up with a corvette logo and them I can operate all functions of the nav system and radio.

Currently the screen stays blank, Engine starts and radio is tuned to the last channel listened too. Can not change channels or get any response from the control buttons.

Any ideas? I hate to have the local Mr goodwrench play with it if there is a simple solution. I sucpect that the entire DRR/Nav has to be replaced????

Not had that problem, but parts fail. That's why we have warranties. See the dealer!

How cold is it? I have trouble with the screen if it is around zero or less. Did you warm up the car? Mine is ok once the inside warms up.

LCD displays in Navigation systems are dim upon cold conditions. Additionally the unit is probably coming up in night mode (due to lower ambient light in garage) that has lower brightness and contrast settings than day mode. GM has specifications defined for Navigation systems I have developed in which the brightness level has to reach a defined value in a defined amount of time. Backlighting in LCD displays is primarily done with flourescent lighting which has lower power consumption, but has the disadvantage of not being as bright when cold. Different techniques are done to improve brightness at cold in newer displays. With this being a display in one of GM's oldest navigation systems, I would suspect that the display is not up to specifications of their newer developments. Try giving the unit time to warm up and see if things improve to being able to see a faint image, then go in and manually set it over to day mode instead of auto for the display.

If all the above does not work, pull the fuse for the radio and then power up after replacing the fuse. This might resolve any possible issue that would require battery disconnect without having to pull the unit before taking it in to the dealer.

This is the key that it isn't the screen.

It's happened to me exactly three times in my 07'. Each and every time it has happened I just shut off the motor and restart. It has always come right back up. I thought about a trip to the dealer but I can't handle any drama but I can handle a once a year minor temporary glitch.
