Default 09 C6 brakes

Hello everyone. I am new member and this is my first question. Im looking to upgrade the brakes, rotors/caliper on my C6. What are my options? Can I put the Z06 brakes on my car? Im told I need the 19x12 rims on back and dont think they will fit on the standard C6. Are there other kits out there w/a caliper and rotor upgrade such as Baer? How bout the Z51? Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks!

You can run the Z51 rotors with just rotors and brackets under your stock wheels. The front caliper (that you have) is the same as the Z51 and the rear caliper is almost identical, just a slight difference in piston size. You can get the rotors and parts from Gene Culley. Bear in mind the rotors aren't directional. You have to go aftermarket to get true directional rotors.

You can't fit the Z06 brakes under your stock wheels.

Baer makes a bracket and rotor kit to run larger rotors all the way around, but it is pricey.

To truly upgrade your calipers and rotors to a more robust brake kit, you'll need different wheels. Someone can correct me if there is a kit that fits that I haven't seen.

What are you goals? Are you wanting to do this for looks? Wow factor mybrakesarebiggerthanyours? Actual track use around a road course?

Even the base C6 brakes are extremely powerful.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. Yes, I must go ahead and admit I want them primarily for looks. The stock front's are fine but the back rotors and calipers just look so lonely, lost and pathetic behind that massive 19" wheel. I know with the fronts I can just put on some same size cross drilled or even better, Baer Eradisport 2 piece rotors and pull off calipers and paint red for some incredible improved looks and maybe even a little better braking performance. But the backs would still pale in comparison. So I guess what im really looking for are some larger rear rotors is there anything? Thanks again guys

PS: are the Z51 rotors any larger than my stock 09 C6 units?

The Z51 rear rotors are slightly larger. I would go with the Z51 brake upgrade either through Gene Culley or slightly used. Since you're local, I might have a source for a used set (send me a PM).

In my opinion if you're going to put on larger rotors, you should do both the front and rear to maintain the proper brake bias. Since you're just doing it for looks, call Gene Culley and just buy the front and rear Z51brackets and rotors. I would also want my rotors to match front to rear, not blanks and cross-drilled.

You should also check out corvette pilot on the forum as he powder coats calipers (and brackets) any color you want. He'll ship you a pair powder coated and then you ship your calipers back to him for minimum downtime.

Here's a link from a CF vendor for the Z51 brake kit - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-p...-specials.html

No problem. You do good work and have an excellent reputation on the forum, so I'm just trying to do you both a favor.
