Hey all, just got my first vette. Its an 05 z51 with 17k miles. It already came with a borla catback exhaust. I was woundering what should be my next first mod?

disconnect the center speaker. put a couple of coats of wax on the wheels (even the barrels.. will make cleaning them alot easier). body-colored door handles and Z06 spoiler. real good clay bar job and wax on the body. paint the calipers, if they are not already done. I think the 05s didn't have any chicklets, but take them off if they are there.
you'd be out $200 and maybe 8 hours of your time and made a major impact on the looks of your car. It will also make you alot more familiar with the car and get you ready to take the next step.
find a good tint shop.
Hook up with any people in the area who can show you what they did, instead of just reading about it. Find out what mods make the most difference in person, and how much effort each can take.
Seen you on the Buick boards and posted on your brothers gt500 thread. I just sold my GN in December after nearly 9 years. Had a couple Ts also. Bought my 05 C6 Z51 last June and have put 12,000 miles on it. They are that nice, you'll want to drive it a lot.
As for mods, just save up for a reputable shop and you'll have to decide if you want to stay NA or FI. I went H/C/I route since I'd already done the turbo with the Buick and supercharged with the Cobra, but I still have the option of adding a procharger on top of the NA work. Mine had LTs, which are expensive, and a Borla Touring catback on when I bought it, and that saved some $$. You can put some bigger cams in and they run fine for a DD. I went 232/232 114 LSA on my M6 and real happy with it, idles at 850 rpm. Power comes on higher in the rpm band but it pulls hard on a roll.
Maybe you can get a ride in a modded car or one of the shops will let you drive one of their personal modded vehicles. Oh yea the cold air filter is a good first mod, I just got carried away since I knew you have/had a Buick and know how much we mod those cars. Have fun with the new vehicle
