TIPS Tool
The TIPS tool has a green plastic case, and there is an identical tool called the KTi p.s.t. that is exactly the same tool but in a red case.
There are many other tools made by Schrader, Bartec, ATEQ, OTC, Kent-Moore, etc., etc. Any tool that sends out a radio frequency will work to "trigger" or "excite" our C6 sensors.
If your shop was using an actual TIPS tool, it should be used as in the video below.
Did they properly put the car into the "learn mode" as in the video?
Do you have some exotic after market wheels with the sensors mounted deep inside the wheels with bands or brackets?
Also, take a look at this other video in the text link below to see how to make sure the tool is in the correct mode to trigger our sensors before you try to do the relearn procedure so the procedure doesn't time-out while the tool is "hunting" for the correct protocol to communicate with the sensor. You can progressively push the top button on the TIPS or KTi tool until you get all 4 lights illuminated, which will be the C6 sensor mode that will trigger them very quickly during the relearn procedure.
Good luck, and let me know if you have any problems or other questions.

.
I did watch your TIPS KTi instruction video and will share it with the tire shop I went to the other day.
Saw your other video about using a magnet. I picked my car up on 22OCT04; would any magnet work?

As I mentioned in that PM to you the other day, a magnet might work on a very early 2005 model C6. You can try it and see if it will work.
You can put your car into the "learn mode" like you see in the video and use a very strong magnet (like the one on the bottom of that blue magnetic parts bowl in the video) to try to trigger the sensors. If it works you'll get a horn honk, if not then you won't get a horn honk and it hasn't done anything to the car - just turn off the ignition and it will take the car out of the learn mode and no harm has been done.
Yes, any STRONG magnet will work. You can see in that video I sent you that I used the strong magnet on the bottom of a magnetic parts bowl that you use in the shop to put nuts and bolts in. The C5 sensors used a magnet and many C5 owners used a strong magnet from a speaker, which you can get at Radio Shack. An owner on the forum reported that he used a strong magnet he got at Harbor Freight.
I think some lights should light up on the KTi p.s.t. tool when they push the activate button. The tool uses 6 AA batteries. Maybe you get some to take with you to make sure the tool will work properly.
Good luck!

You can get an ATEQ VT10 directly from ATEQ here:
http://tpms-usa.store-ateq.com/
It's a completely universal tool (it will work with all sensors that require such a tool to trigger them - although it can't be upgraded) and it's the cheapest tool out there ($99+$15 shipping).
