Default Stickies (or lack thereof)

I know the moderators are busy and this is no comment on them or their hard work. With that prefaced, I am getting really frustrated with the apparent reluctance to sticky threads in the tech section, for two reasons:

(1) there are, every other day, multiple repeat threads on "what's the biggest tire I can fit", "please help me with cams 101", "my car is puking oil into the TB, what do I do", "what does this code mean" etc. etc. etc.

(2) because the regulars on here have devoted significant resources and time to try various tech solutions and ideas, and most of the repeat topics have been already adressed. I personally would like to help people, but I am tired of posting information about wheels and tires over and over again to help the latest new guy in here needing information, and I will not do this anymore (not that anyone cares anyway ).

We had excellent threads on cams, heads, oil, traction, aftermarket seats and so on, with lots of work put into them. They were never stickied despite repeat requests....why? This might be OK if the search function work or people used it. Fact is, search sucks and people are lazy.

I also notice a half-page of stickies in the Z06 section. We should have the same. Please do not lock this thread. It is valid for open discussion.

Thanks in advance for you understanding.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but IMHO you can post pages of stickies on every topic under the sun and guess what? People will still come directly into the Forum and post their question. Some people will answer them (even if its all in the sticky). Others will refer them to the sticky (and get beat up for being rude). There are a ton of people who have no desire to search at all, they're content to just ask the question and let someone else do that for them.

Having said that, the Forum is a passing parade. Just because a question has been anwsered many times, every day is the first day.

I agree with what's been said so far, but I'd like to at least get the oil thread, the cam thread, and the tractionmonster threads stickied. Doesn't cost any bandwidth.

I have to admit I don't like the "Search" function. It only searches for each single word you enter, not for the exact match of a group of words; that would really be beneficial in searches.

Have you seen this? I only noticed it a few days ago.... even though it is in plain sight.

Yes, you're right. However, what it does is it not only searches everything that contains the two words (or more), but also the single words by themselves. What I'm saying is that there should be a "flag" to search the "group" of words exactly and nothing else. Otherwise, you have to look at 100 search results of all the single words, too (that you don't want). When you see that, then one just says, "....oh ok, forget it."

Check with Spin, but it was stickied and I recall that he asked that it be unstickied because because the number of views went down significantly after being stickied.

One of the things that might work here is a "Best of" or FAQ sticky. This forum covers a lot of topics and a single sticky with links to the best threads on tires, cam selection, etc. might be useful. It would make it easier to politely point newbies to some good reading.

Probably wouldn't fill in that info either.

Now there's a good idea! Matter of fact, I think that's how they do it on the LS1 Tech. Frankly, I had to go there last year to get useful info when I was researching a heads&cam package.
