There may be an easier way but how I do it to prevent scratching anything is remove the front fender liners. Remove front bumper. Loosen front fenders enough so I can pull them up about 3 inches. Remove the 3 10mm nuts that hold the lamp in. Pull up on the headlamp to clear the studs then pull straight out. It's a real PITA.

+1 About the only way I've seen to do it and not run a high risk of scratching. If you have a helper you may get by with removing about half the screws in the front cover and pulling away enough. Better have a trusted friend...
