I am adding (within weeks) a Level VI transmission from RPM. What opinions are out there on adding an external transmission cooler. I am thinking with my investment it would not be a bad idea to try to protect it; the thought being the cooler it is the longer it will last - further if I ever do any type of racing I am thinking it will heat the trans way beyond std.
B&M makes a tranny cooler. I cant remeber the model number but it is the second largest one. You can cut the factory tranny lines at the rubber pieces and install the cooler inside the mouth on the front of the car. If you want I can get some pics and email them too you just pm me with your email address. Keep in mind that I also have a vararam and it lays pretty flat but still keeps the tranny temps way below 200 for normal driving and at about 196 at the track. Since installing it Ive only seen them above 200 once and that was after 5 or 6 consecutive runs at the track.

If you can send pics that would be great. I have a BIG problem as I do have a Centri SC and intercooler. I am adding a B&M oil cooler and trans cooler. I have a machine shop and thinking about finding somewhere under the car to mount; maybe I can fab an air scoop. I dont want to remove the fog lights - as suggested by many. There has got to be somewhere under the car to mount these and still gain an advantage. The BIG question is line length. I wonder how long I can go w/o causing a problem such as pressure drop.
You can put a fan on it and lay it flat. There is also several companies that sell bigger radiators and I think they have bigger TOCs and EOCs in them.
You can get fittings that go into the transmission to get rid of the stock lines and run a trans cooler in the back. When I go back with my transmission this time I am going to put new fittings in the trans and run the lines to a trans cooler in the back with a fan on it.

Did you mount the cooler in the back??
If so how about some pics, you can e mail any pics to swiftss1@msn.com
thanks
i just had one put on my a6, only a 15,000 btu, but i'm running it inline after the radiator, they installed it behind the pass side headlight where the brake ducts are, but there are no ducts there lol
seems to be doing the job, on the highway, it was running about 8-10 degrees cooler than the car, but almost 30 degrees cooler than before
I mounted mine in the front laying pretty much flat. You cant really see it unless you get on your knees and look and the tranny runs very cool. I have only seen it get to around 197 during normal driving and have only seen it over 200 after about 4 consecutive passes at the track (less than a 5 minutes between). I sent some pics to those who requested them but Ill try to post one here just for kick and so the masses can get a view.
Sorry for the crappy pics they are from my phone I still havent replaced my stolen camera.
You can see it here under my vararam.

Here is where I cut the upper tranny line after it come out of the radiator. I put the out line off the aftermarket cooler into the other half of it.

Here is a view of two of the mount bolts. There is a bracket running back with two more mount bolts in the back.
Good job, I'll be looking forward to your follow up thread!!!
Don't forget the pictures.
I ran my car today, outside temps in the 90*'s, tranny temps 180/190
no cooler, but in Aug I know will be in the high 90* to 100*'s
thanks for the info!!
I have been tracking my '08 F55 C6 manual and have been conserned of high oil temps. After researching for over a month, I decided on a Z06 heat exchanger. This included the stock 1/2 O. D. aluminum lines and hoses which ended up fitting perfectly. The install was a breeze. Fortunately for me, I got these complete from Corvette Recyclers in Utah. Anyone wanting to cool your oil, keep these guys in mind. My temps dropped 30 to 50 F; depending on the kind of driving I'm involved in.
