Default Need help with MGW shifter install

I am installing my new MGW shifter and am stuck with the process of removing the plugs/connectors for the traction control, cigarette lighter, heated seat control, and flasher lights. I don't want to break them....what is the secret?

You have to pull the lower plugs for the cigarette lighter and traction control. There is a blue clip that holds the larger clip in place, you have to pull that out.

I tried to do a search back to last year when I did mine, but I can't find it. I was having the same issue...Somebody on the forum knew every connector and how to depress the mounting ring properly to disengage. (Does anyone know how to go back to older threads?)

I recall the traction control is actually located on the top of the plug. You actually use a flat knife or a screwdriver to push down on the connector. I removed mine because I swapped out the console at the same time I installed the MGW. I recall reading that you don't have to disconnect the plugs just to do the shifter.

Just did mine last week. I disconnected the F55 switch and both heater switches. I was able to move the console out of the way enough to get to the shifter.

I just installed my mgw a few weeks ago..i didn't even unplug all mine..jus the heated seats and hazard control switch..then i sat the console to the side..you just push down on the top of the plug on the heated seats and they pull right out..as far as the cig lighter..i believe you have to undo the blue tab to pull it off..although it's not neccessary...best of luck to you..

I did mine last weekend, the only connectors that were removed were the traction control and the emergency flashers. I left everything else connected. The emergency flasher disconnected/reconnected easily. Gentle prodding on the gray connector on the traction control with a small flat blade screw driver were there is a visible "snap" on the outside of the connector easily disengaged it.

I dont have heated seats, but the only connector I removed was for the hazard lights. With that gone, I tilted the console over to the passenger side and had enough room to install the new shifter...

Dont flame me but I have installed a few shifters without removing the console. Pull the ****, release the leather boot and slide it up. Make a square cut in the rubber boot and slide it up. Then remove the 4 bolts and repeat in reverse

The rubber boot slides down and fits pretty tight back inside the cut opening to keep the noise/heat out just like it was designed. Its the lazy way but it works

Good news! Actually got it installed without having to detach any of the plugs/connectors. Took it for a quick drive. All I can say is I LOVE it! Smooth, easy, precise shifting and no rattle what so ever.

Thanks gang for all your help. Once again the Forum members come through.
