Looking to add a trailer hitch on my car this year. I recall seeing a place that has it for around $160 with free shipping. Can someone tell me what site that is again. I thought it was etrailer or ehitch something.
I've considered doing the same thing to get my track tires, a jack, and some tools to the track. My car is a daily driver and I'm not ready to turn it into a track-only car and buy $50,000 worth of tow vehicle and trailer to pull the Vette on. I haven't investigated where to get a hitch, but here's a link to a member putting a hitch on his Z06:
What is wrong with taking my car to the race track? It beats driving a high performance machine without any room to play with.
I found one before, I just can't remember where it was.
Nevermind, I found it. It looks like the only hitch available is from Curt aka Dalan. Price is from $150-$200. I will probably give that a shot
Google "curt hitch" and you'll find dozens of places to get one like you see in jamsvet's pictures - a Curt hitch. I took a quick look and saw them for various prices, but second lowest were several places selling them for $204 and free shipping.
Here's the cheapest one I found for $199 after a quick look:
The most recent Corvette they say they make one for is the 2006. However, there isn't any change in 2007-2009 models except for the NPP exhaust.
Also, the one they show in the picture doesn't look like jamsvet's (before he starting modding it), but that model is the one Curt makes for the Corvette. Click on the Curt website below and then select 2006 Corvett in the "Lookup" windows. You'll see the picture looks like the JC Whitney picture, but click further on "Instruction Sheet 11380" and you'll see it looks like jamsvet's:
I've had a D'alan hitch from ettailerhitch.com for 3 years now. Great product. I use it to tow a small Harbor Freight trailer to the track with my track tires.
Another source would be your local UHaul center. C6 hitches are made by Curt (or Curtiss) and DeLaan, both are sold by UHaul. I had a hitch installed on my '05 for aprx. $350.00 at UHaul. I'd hate to do it in my garage, the install requires opening an existing hole in the frame to install nut plates and also requires holes to be drilled in the frame and bumper bar.
I only towed the boat once to a local car meet to aggravate some of the 'Vette purists. The boat was usually behind my truck.
People give me trouble about my trailer hitch too. I give them trouble back about "waxing". I drive my car to my and its limits on the track and proper tires are essential.
Hitchesonline.com has it for $149.99+shipping. At one point, etrailer was selling the hitch for $160 with free shipping. I ended up not getting it at the time as that was the day my 401K went into the dump.
It won't fit the Z06 or cars with the variable muffler. Matter of fact, I just remember my co-driver from the national had it on his 2008.
Also I am going to throw a loop to it and use it as a tow strap in case i need it
