So I have been reading on some of the other posts that the A4 tends to be a lazy shifter, what do you folks mean when you say that? Is a tune the only way to adjust that? How would making a change to it affect the less aggressive shifts say in normal day to day driving? I have been lurking for awhile trying to soak up as much from you guys and gals as I can, so I appreciate any answers as well as corrections to my ignorance, I am certainly not a gear head
I am already trying to figure out what Mods to make to her. I am thinking a Vararam CAI and perhaps some B&B bullets to give her a little more aggressive sound. At that point I was going to get a tune done, does that sound like a good course of action?
I have an a4 also. It is a little lazy in the middle. Did a cam and heads really woke it up. Now I did some gears its even more of a beast. The a6 has the advantage of being fully tuneable as ours do not. I am doing a shift kit in the next week and afterwards I will be reporting my findings as usual.

If you are referring to slow shifts (i.e. the physical time it takes the tranny to shift), it can also be changed using a shift kit such as the Transgo or by programming. If you are referring to it being lazy to downshift or shifting like grandma and staying out of the power band when just driving around, that is a programming issue as changes to part throttle shift points and converter lock/unlock can be made to improve responsiveness.
BTW, if you ever put a shift kit in, be sure to let your tuner know. I've seen plenty of blown A4s from people adding a shift kit while at the same time changing line pressure and shift time in the PCM.

When I first got my 05' A4, there was one thought that kept going through my mind......I think I should have bought a stick car. Stock my car ran ok, but shifts were lazy and hesitant. Chuck will completely transform your car. He does amazing things with automatics. After Chuck got done, I was so glad I got an automatic car. Start with an intake, exhaust and a tune and you will have a huge smile on your face. Gears would be the next big thing.
