A local shop quoted me $750 to install an underdrive pulley on my 08 c6. They basically said that they knew I wouldnt pay that much to install, but that it is listed as a 7.5 hour job, and it's not worth doing unless I'm also installing a Cam at the same time...
Would it really take a shop 7.5 hours to install??? I could do pulleys on Mustangs in 30min.
yes it would you have to take the steering arm off to get to the pulley or you have to take one side off and pull it up to the other side to get it off. and Thank GOd this isn't a JUNKSTANG lol
shopkey has it listed at 7.2 hours, i've made less time for r&r engines before, damn i need to leave my dealership(ford, lincoln, mercury) and start working on Chevy's.....

Wow, that cost is $100/Hr? Well, I plan on doing my own install in a few weeks, but it's true, the steering rack and pinion assembly is directly in the way of the pulley, like about an inch. So, it must be removed, but I wouldn't think it would take all day to do it; I guess I'll find out in a few weeks.....
can you beat the W time? after working on Fords for 20 plus years, working on the space shuttle would be easy. have you seen under the hood of the 6.4 diesel? i think Ford hates their technicians and by the way our labor rate is 85 an hour

Off topic, but are the 6.4's really as bad as people are making them out to be?
On topic- This "mod" is not even worth it if you aren't changing out the cam. Not only b/c of the cost, but also the minimal gains. It is definitely not worth doing for the few hp you may gain. Wait til cam time, then have it done.

not near the problems the 6.0 had when it came out, most engine repairs call for the body to be removed on the 6.4 diesel.....

Well, on mustangs you gain 7-10hp and the part is $100 and takes 30min to install, so they're WELL worth it.

I have only done one balancer and it took me 4-4.5 hours. If I did a couple more then I could get it down to the 3-3.5 that Chris@ECS mentioned.

off topic - our duramax isn't fun to work on either. I have a turbo to replace soon and the body will be coming off.
