Default Upgrading Air Intake?

I recently purchaced a new 09 Cpe and have been out of the loop for several years.

in 2002 I purchaced an 02 Cpe and later installed Stinger II mufflers along with a Rammer Cold Air System, BPP Vortex model.

The Vortex was very noticeable, you could feel the motor wake up at 3.5 RPM and above 40mph.

Back in 02 this air intake was still new and some talk was said about possibly taking in to much cold air in the winter along with sucking in water in a down pour of rain.

I didn't keep that car long enough to exp any of those possible scenarios.

How about today, is this still a good unit to consider?

How has this unit faired over the years? I see it is still being sold at about twice the price that I paid in 02

I purchased the cut radiator shrowd with the package the install took a little better than an hour.

Pretty nice..

That one is popular, just like the VaraRam - sounds like they have the same water sucking issue.

I have one and love it. If you haven't visited their web site lately, do so. Lot's of pictures, etc. I bought a Vararam for my Silverado and removed it. Didn't like the quality at all and felt there was no improvement over stock. As a matter of fact, I still have it if anyone reads this and would like to try one on their truck

I have the vortex and like it. I hated the install ... removing the shroud on a Z51 is a PITA.

I just went to their site and noticed the install instructions.

If I remember correctly I purchased the last one from Ecklers.

I paid extra for a pre-cut shroud, and it went pretty smooth.

It doesn't look like they offer that anymore

Two things I admit that I really suck at.

Painting without covering myself and everything else that I'm not supposed too.

Cutting with a dremel or knife.

Call and ask. They're very helpful. I installed mine and I didn't find installing in my Z51 all that difficult. Heck, a couple hours on a nice day with a friend and a couple adult beverages. What more could I ask for? I think I used a razor knife and I was very careful to place a sheet of aluminum under to protect vital organs Oh, the adult beverages came after the cutting

If you cut in place it is much easier, but difficult to drill the required holes without a 90 degree drill. Be sure to use something to protect the condensor or like some idiots (me) you will be replacing the condensor on your new car and then removing the shroud to cut it the second time -- which is a huge pain. A baking tray would work to protect it. I have to say that the fit was much better when I actually cut it outside of the car. Could be I just took more time though.
