I'm currently in the process of removing both fuel tanks on my 2005 C6. I accidentally drilled through P/S tank. PLEASE DON't ASK. I"ll explain later. I already removed the D/S tank and now I'm working on removing the P/S tank. I removed the wheel well and unplugged the harness, fuel lines and also disconnected the cross over pipe that connects both tanks. I also removed the heat shield on the bottom that holds the tank up.
I cannot not see anything else that is holding the tank up. It just will not come down.
Does anyone have a service manual that can take a look for me? Maybe i'm missing something.
Trust me, it's one of those embarrassing stories you don't want to hear but i got the tank down finally. Just needed a second set of eyes to see what was holding it up.
I'll post the story a lil later on. I just have to fix these tanks before the sun goes down here.
Ok. I just finished repairing the small hole on the tank so while it cures i'll let you guys in on what happened.
About a month ago i decided to put a simple sound system in the car. While drilling some holes in the back to ground the amps I actually ended up drilling into one of the fuel tanks. Without knowing this i continued to put everything together. The same night after connecting the battery the car started doing all kind of crazy things such as, windows didn't got up passed 1/2, check engine light was on, when i would close the door the window wouldn't roll up that extra inch or so, etc etc. Well after driving the car for about 30 mins everything started going back to normal except that msg "CHECK GAS CAP". I just figured i would clear the code with my scanner and it would go away. Well, it came back a few days later and also brought with it a raw gas smell. Right there it hit me... "Oh crap, i know i didn't drill through one of my tanks". Well i did.
Yes ladies and gentleman I did one of the most dumbest things, i single handily drilled through my psnger side tank at the very top. All the guys here at the shop sure got a kick out of it.
So enjoy!!!!!
Oh and BTW while working on my car today, my car decided to start leaking antifreeze. So i'm about to check that out.

So was it your fuel pump on the right side still holding it?

Next time you drill a hole in the tank from inside repair it from inside. The pro's make a bigger hole in the water fall, patch the the tank from inside and then patch the bigger hole. It's a lot easier than removing both tanks.

You're going to laugh. It wasn't the fuel pump or any lines holding the tank up. It was another screw from the sound system install that had went through the body and into the tank. LOL
Everything is back to normal now and no more "CHECK GAS CAP" warning.
