I have an 07 Z51 with the stock GY Supercar tires.
The tires have 7600 miles on them and have lots of tire left.
I have noticed that the outside edge on both fronts is getting a little "feathered".
Is this normal or do I have an alignment problem. The tires seem to be wearing evening across the entire tread, just have that outside tread block feathering.
I would say it's fairly normal. Depending on the car, I've had my cars aligned and the outside edge continues to feather. I'll let someone else chime in and tell us both if I'm wrong.
Just went to check before I posted. Will say that there's a little feathering on RF tire; other three, little to none. Also note, I did have the tires aligned at about 4K; it's now at 15K.
Consider this......A Corvette comes off the line every 3 minutes. There are 10 different adjustments on the suspension. Assuming the factory got all of them spot on in 3 minutes is a bit of wishful thinking!!
Find a good independent and get it done to spec. Not + or - of spec, but right on the center..
I have the same care, same tires with th z51 package and just turned 13K miles. Very limited spirted driving, mostly easy highway. I'm showing wear on the out side of front tires as well. Chevy told me they looked very normal although they recommended an alignment every 10K to 13K miles. Also I should expect to change the tires at about 15K miles. Wow. I love the tires but will be shopping around. The 2009 has a redisigned tread on the GY F1 EMT. Looks like a better wet weather tire.
the chevy dealer by me charged me $88.00 last time for an allignment. it would be worth that to me just for piece of mind. having to change tires due to poor allignment will cost a lot more
tks, dal
Corvette alignments coming out of the factory are notorious for being out. Do a search and you will find many threads on this topic. My 06 Z 51 burned through the driver's side outer edge in about 13K miles before I really noticed. I put a new set of Goodyear Supercars on at 20K, and by that time one of the front tire edges was down to cord on the old set. When I put the new set on I got a four wheel alignment as well as a four corner balance from a Corvette specialy shop. Now, some 7K into the new set, wear is very slight and even. Next time I buy a new Vette, the first thing I will do is take it to an alignment shop.
