Will be replacing batt soon...
what functions will I have to reset?...
Is it worth installing battery bypass wiring sold in catalogs?

I just replaced mine a week ago. Ended up with a Optima red top. I did reindex the windows, but that was it. Everything else still seems hunky dory.
While you have the battery out, clean the cabin air filter and wipe the battery tray with 303. Use dielectric grease on the terminals along with the felt rings. They do work, though this car has had such good care taken of it, that the terminals still look new.
