Cracked headlamps ??

Cracked headlamps ??
Buddy of mine has a 2005 C6 Coupe. Headlamps have this spider web cracking happen just recently. Nothing hit the lens - the right side is almost completely covered and the left side is just starting. See pics. Couple questions:
1) Does anyone know what would cause this? Nothing hit the car. It's more like a stress fracture.
2) Where can you get a new lens?

Some people have had it start after having blackout covers or protection film over the headlights, apparently the heat buildup causes the cracking. That right headlight is the worst I've seen. For new headlights, check that auction site as well as the parts for sale section, they show up frequently.

For new headlights, check that auction site as well as the parts for sale section, they show up frequently.
I'll keep an eye out for parts.

I've seen a couple of lenses on the sale section, but so far haven't seen anyone post how practical it is to unseal and reseal the headlamp. I've got some dust and debris in my passenger lamp that's been annoying me, but not enough to drop the cash for a whole new assembly yet. If your buddy ends up figuring out how to replace just the lens, let me know.
