Default Air Filter instalation tips

I just purchased the K&N Air Charger Kit. The install looks easy but I've never done it before. Any tips, tricks or advise is appreciated.

No tricks. Only advice is after you remove the factory assembly is to carefully clean the inside of the new assembly to remove anything that may get sucked into the throttle body when you restart the engine. Wipe out dust and debris that may have gotten into the filter assembly during packing and shipping. Also, wipe out the throttle body with a damp lint free towel.

Do not use compressed air around the filter as it will damage the cotton filter.

Do not add oil to the K&N filter thinking a little is good and a lot is very good. This is a case where a little oil is enough. Only use K&N oil. When I removed my intake manifold, there was lots of red oil inside. Probably caused by me over oiling the filter when I cleaned and re-oiled it for the first time.

Watch out when you remove the OE filter assembly for the rubber mounting grommets on the front bumper beam mounting posts. I lost one and had to get another.

Watch out for contact between the new CAI housing and the radiator shroud. You want to get a fit so it does not rub or have a too big a gap either as it may touch the hood liner. Keep all the clamps loose until you achieve a good fit then tighten them all down.

Make sure all the rubber connections are a nice, even fit before tightening down the clamps. Especially at the throttle body. Air leaks will cause a CEL or drivability issues.

the little black rubber grommets that your going to reuse for the K&N mount. on mine they were not in good shape went to the dealer and got some new one's once you get to looking around you see that they use the same grommet for a couple of other things and because of how they are made they tend to cut in half. I got a couple of extra for the glove box

Thanks for the advise. I'll probably install it next week. I'm sure if I follow the advise you both gave me and take my time, I'll do alright.

Thanks again,

Russell
