Default Are my Cats breaking up??

I noticed my car making a knocking type noise when you rev the engine - was checking out where it was coming from and it was really hard to pin down. It was loudest when you switch the engine off and the engine rocks a bit.

When I was checking everything out though, I noticed really small (<1mm) flakes of metal in the left two tailpipes and then also on the ground behind that muffler, where I usually park

So anyway, I start to think about this sound a bit more, and it DOES sound like it's coming from underneath the car, in the area of the cats....

Could my cat be loose and breaking up inside??? Thing is, the car only has 7000 miles. It's a 2005 Z-51 C6. I bought it with 3000 miles last year, and have done one track day. I did notice the exhaust got a bit louder after the track day.....

Has this ever happened on other cars?

Oh, and no warranty, but surely this is pretty substandard if they are disintegrating after only 7000 miles??

Be careful. I have seen where debris from the converters can somehow work its way up into the combustion chambers (not on Corvettes, but other vehicles). This can cause some major damage.

Unless your warranty has been invalidated due to mods, you may be in luck. I just checked the warranty book for my '08 Vette and it states that the catalytic converters & powertrain control module are covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Default EPA says YES ! ! !

Check out the EPA website: http://www.epa.gov/oms/consumer/warr95fs.txt

Your cats are indeed under a warranty for 8 years and 80,000 miles. Make GM do something about this.

Excellent!! Can I get them to fit headers instead at no charge??

Car is totally standard apart from some decent brake fluid, and as said before, only 7,000 miles on it.

Well, do they fight often?
How long have they been married/dating?
Perhaps they should seek some marriage counseling to avoid breaking up?

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Well, they've been happily together for 4 years now, since that happy day in the manufacturing plant.

Unfortunately, things got a bit heated, and the bond between them just wasn't strong enough, so now that relationship is falling apart!

You might have bought a car with the cats gutted. If so there are rattles because all the material was not all taken out. Illegal YES, done ALOT
