I checked the gas cap, it's on correctly. Haven't done anything I know of to trip it. I have had the CAGS fuse in for a few months and never got the light before - but I placed the original fuse back and still have the light.

The gas cap could still be on correctly and still trip it. If you got an Autozone nearby, take it there and they'll diagnose it for free. Then come back and give us the DTC and PO#.
Shucks/Krager/Checker usually have a scanner they let you use for free, if not you can buy one for about $125 and it can be used in any 1996 and newer vehicle to get the code and reset the light. I would reset the light and see if it comes back on again. Could be something simple not worth paying a tech to scan.
I like the suggestions to tap Autozone/Kragen for the loaner scanner tool and codes, thanks. I'll do that tomorrow.
I just called Autozone and am told that they are no longer allowed to loan scan tools, I asked why and the answer was the repair shops complained they are not licensed to do repair so no can loan, just sell.

Reason: update
I installed a CAGS eliminator right after I got my car in 2007 and it never caused the check engine light to come on. Since it didn't come on right after you installed the fuse I doubt that has anything to do with it.
