Alignment camber gauge
I Just need it for camber mostly but both cater and camber would be great (maybe all do that, it seems liek we would turn the wheel 20 degrees both ways and the difference between the 2 was caster if i remember right?) Thxs for any input, paul
I use a digital level - just put it against the wheel or tire (make sure you don't put it on the wheel spokes or tire bulge area) and you directly read the camber to the nearest 0.1 degrees. In the picture below it's not accurate as I'm holding it in one hand while trying to take the picture with the other - you can see on the tire sidewall that I had my Hoosiers on, so the camber would have been my track setup and actually would have been about -2.5 degrees if measured carefully.
Take a look at David Farmer's site ( http://davidfarmerstuff.com ) and scroll down to "Alignment Guide" for a good explanation of measuring camber with a bubble level and tape measure. Scroll down a little farther in that guide and he has good info on measuring the caster.
BTW, You can use it with the wheels off if you put a jackstand under the ball joint to load the suspension:

Here's a magnetic level like you're talking about - this one is an old bubble level, but they make some nice digital ones. Like the picture above, if you have the wheels off you'll have to have jackstands under the ball joints:
