I just got the P0442 code on my 2007 this morning and am wondering if anyone knows that may have caused it. I installed corsa xtremes about 1000 miles ago. And I know this has no relevance but the timing was just really strange, I just installed gm splash guards last night. I got under and made sure all the bolts were torqued for the exhaust and I did not hear or feel any leaks from the cats back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately I checked the cap and it still appears to be in perfect condition after close inspection. I have never had any problems with it tightening like I have read on other threads and have never received that check gas cap in the DIC. The rubber seal still looks perfect. Thanks for the inputs so far.
Well, the link I gave tells you what you check for that code. If it's not the easy cap, then the evap canister, a hose of fuel tank pressure sensor is in trouble.

As noted it was likely the gas cap. It will take several ignition cycles for the code to be cleared. There are various levels of EVAP emissions leaks and depending upon the severity of the leak it can just set a code, cause the DIC to display check gas cap or set a check engine light.
Inspect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System for the following conditions:
• Loose, missing, or damaged service port dust cap and/or schrader valve
• Loose, incorrect, missing, or damaged fuel fill cap
Thanks everyone for the quick replies and thank you eboggs_jkvl for that great reference. I've never had to deal with the EVAP system so I guess my next step if finding the service port, schrader valve, and canister purge solenoid valve.

If you know someone in your area that has EFILive, have them clear the codes. If they come back, then chase them. If they come back, I'd still get a new gas cap.

I got another scanner because mine was broke and cleared the codes. It says the test for the evap is inclunclusive right now so I have to drive a bit more to see if it is alright. If it comes back I will try the gas cap and if that does not work I have to find a repair shop that I can trust. Thanks for the advice.
We had a bad cap when we thought it was O.K,
Couldnt believe it when the service tech just reached in there and pulled it right off!! I said "gimmie that cap back"-- went and put it back on, tightened it down about 3 or 4 clicks and he reached right in and just pulled it right off!!!! Replaced it with a new one and all is well.
