Default Cooling Issue

First off I did use the search function to no help.

Couple days ago I was driving on the hwy when cycling through the DIC monitors and noticed my coolant temp was at 200, which is ok if I got on it...but I didnt. Couple secs later it was 220, so I thought the old switch on the heater trick might work, nope it got worse and climbed to 240 and 250 by the time I got off the exit. Had it towed home.

The shop said the cooling fans werent working, and when he started playing with the fuses, he replaced the fuse and the fans worked and they test ran the car for 30min no problem.

Now after 2 days, my fans will shut off, but if I get out and wiggle the fuse the fans will come on...then it will just stop and I gotta do it again. The whole fuse block was replaced under warranty cause the last one melted( I dont know how either).

Ive seen the 250$ fan mod , but I dont have 250 bucks laying around, are there any other options to keep my fans from just switching off whenever they want to? Its no fun jumping out at a red light to wiggle a fuse and then make it back into the car before it turns green again.

The fans are supposed to come on at 180(and stay on if way overheated). We cant figure out though, why a brand new fuse keeps going in an out of circuit.

Is that your tuned speed or are you saying that is when they are supposed to come on stock?

sounds like a loose connection or corrosion on the connection at either the fuse or more common would be the fan relay. good luck, paul

Sounds to me like you overheated the fuse holder. that causes the contacts to soften and not hols tight. causing a hot spot. try tightening them with a pick. (bend them in to firm up the connection where the fuse pushes in) if they loosen again then either you are running the fan too much (too much current) and or its time for new fuse contacts.

The fan is designed to come on at 204* and be fully on at 235* (or so). On at 180 would keep most cars on full time - even some with 160* stats.

Its been running fine ever since the motor was rebuilt. Im having a mechanic whose a guru in electronics part of the car diagnose it tomorrow.

My cars fans would be running 24/7 still if it was left to turn on at 204 if I drove with the a/c on. They arent at full cycle at 180, I remember reading somewhere the fan speed can be set to a certain percentage per temp range.
