I was wanting to delete my cats for a little while. Is there a way without having to get lt headers? I'm looking for more noise out of my borla exhaust.
I just put these on today, the passenger lower flange angle was off by about 10 degrees I had to cut it on a 5 degree angle spin it 180 degrees and weld it back on. No biggie.
I was really suprised by how much more sound the car has now. I knew it would make a difference but wow its really a lot louder.
I have a full stock exhaust with duel 2 1/2" RPP electric cutouts and even with them closed the car sound throaty, with them open the sound is almost too much "almost"
And to all the people that THINK the stock cats are of a high flow design they are NOT. They may flow better than the cats from the 90's but they are not the same type as high flow performance cats. And not nearly as good as the latest spiral wound high flow race cats.
I need to take some vids of how this thing sounds now
Damn, you weren't kidding when you asked about these last week. You sure as heck got them fast.
So, I take it you felt some power gains? What would you guesstimate...10, 20HP? What did you do with the rear O2? How are you preventing from getting a CEL?
I'm surrpised the pipes were off by that much. Ten deegres is quite a bit.
Keep in mind that removing the cats is against the Federal emissions law.
I've been there and done that. The fed law didn't bother me, it was the horrible odor that drove me back to hi-flow cats. I loved the sound and gained 10 hp but I would rather lose 30 than ever deal with it again.
I'm not sure why the cel isn't coming on, I only have about 20 miles on it since the swap so maybe it hasn't seen enough polution yet.
Yeah I was pretty bummed about the flange being off, I called them up and told them about it they are looking into it. It probably still would have sealed with the giant donut gaskets they give you but I didn't want it ghetto. They developed them on an 06 and mine is an 05 I doubt they are any different but you never know. Has anyone ever swapped cat pipes or manifolds from an 05 to any other year or vice versa? It could be the jig fell or someone whacked it with some piping and knocked it off a bit.
I will take some vids as soon as it stops raining which looks like it won't be until the weekend, I'm dying to do some WOT blasts but for now I have to settle for a short blurp and lots of wheel spin so I can't confirm any power gain. I can confirm the whole area stays much cooler now. When I pulled the car in the garage to put the pipes on it only ran for about a minute and I could barely hold the cat pipes by the H pipe end with a mechanix glove and some shop rags with out burning. After I installed them and drove it for 30 minutes with the test pipes on I pulled it right in and checked the torque on the bolts and I could easily hold my hand on the same spot with the glove on.
My brother did on an LS2 GTO and when I follow him I can't stand the stink (sulfur)
I don't get the smell issue. Before we had cats, we didn't have smell, but then we got cats, and you would smell rotten eggs coming out of the exhaust. Now it is just the opposite.

I don't get it.
I can't fiqure it out either (maybe cause the 02 sensors were faked out)
but believe me it stinks. He starts in up in the garage and the whole garage smells bad (for a little while).
