Default Fan switch help

I accidentally posted this in "General" Not Tech/Performance... I think I'll get more help here...

I got the following 3 way switch.. it will run the fan HI, or LO, or OFF with the motor OFF.. & if I forget it in the Hi or LO position it will eventually kill the battery (NEW OPTIMA YELLOW TOP)

I'm getting on in years and when at the Drag Strip I pull into the lanes and turn on the fan to cool it between runs... and of course i start to BS with anyone within earshot... & I "FORGET" the fans are on... I want to hook up a small LED or 12 volt RED bulb and install it on my dash,,, so I will SEE it and remember to shut OFF the fans after 10 min...

Can a 12v light be hooked up to a 3 way switch (Hi. Lo, Off) so it the red light) will go on only when the switch is in one of the ON positions?

here is my post & instructions i got with the switch...

I have this switch... its a 3 way.. HI, LO, OFF....

My problem is...everything works fine, but I want to hook up an LED light or small 12V bulb to the switch so when I have the fan running in either HI or LO position the RED light will also go ON...

My reason for this if I'm getting so "OLD" I cant remember what I had for breakfast... & the RED light will remind me I left the fan ON while I'm walking around the pits between runs at the local Drag Strip....

Any help would be very much appreciated....

the fan connector, and is designed to manually control the PWM coolant fan found on the 2005-2009 C6, Z06 and ZR1 Corvette. When the need arises to manually cool the radiator down, this module gives you complete control of the fan with the simple flick of a switch. This kit can be installed in less then one hour, once you decide on where you want to place the control switch. This switch matches the style and look of cockpit switches used on all the C6 Corvettes.

Comes with easy to follow installation instructions.

Installation instructions shown below...

The switch wiring can be installed easily, without the need to cut a hole in the firewall. The wiring can be fed thru the upper door jamb, driver or passenger side, and hidden under the weatherstrip door seal into the passenger compartment. The location of the switch can be anywhere desired. First, locate the fan connector on the passenger side, near the bottom of the fan shroud. Unplug the connector and insert the enclosed module into the connection being sure the connectors are fully seated. The module can simply hang there on the connectors. You can now run the switch harness from the module to the passenger compartment location where you want the switch positioned. Start by plugging the round connector into the receptacle in the module. Next, select a location for the switch. You will need to cut a 20mm hole (approximately 11/16”) into the panel you wish to insert the switch. Once you have installed the switch, run the wiring from the harness and insert the three female connectors as shown in the switch wiring detail below. Note RED wire is common, BLACK wire is High, GREEN wire is Low, and RED wire is Common +12V:

Once the switch wire connectors are attached, you are ready to go. Keep the switch in the center (O) “NORMAL” position for normal ECU fan control. Press the (I) to manually run the coolant fan on low, or the (II) to manually run it on high. Remember, manual control of the fan will make it run without the key in the ignition so be aware that you might kill your battery if left on for long periods of time. NOTE: There may be a coolant fan code set while the switch is in manual control, which will go away when switched back to normal mode.

I can't help you with the wiring problem, but I'm going to give this a bump anyway. Hopefully someone will see it and give you an answer. The biggest problem will be if you can remember where you left the question and why you asked it. Print out any replies immediately and tie them to your left arm. You'll need to get someone to call you on race day as a reminder, then be sure to follow the GPS directions to the track. Don't panic when the first person asks about your arm, they're just trying to help. After the light installation, attach a label to identify what the light is for, using at least 20 point type, as it's likely your vision has failed at the same rate as your memory.

Radio Shack has 12v red LED's , around $3. , I've used them on my vette , my truck and my Z28. For simplicity on your job, use 2, tie the grounds together and connect to ground. Take the hot legs from the LED's and connect one to the low speed hot, and one to the high speed hot on your switch.

Why are you not using a keyed hot lead instead of battery hot?

The heated seat fuse comes to mind. If you are not wanting the fan to run without the car running this is the place to get power.

No... I want the fan to RUN with the engine OFF.. and the Acc OFF.. I want a switch to just run the fan.. but I also want a light to be "ON" when the fan is running so I wont forget and kill the battery...

John, think about it... What good is a light in your car when you're out BSing in the lanes? What kind of light is going to get your attention 20 feet away in daylight?

Joe I thought about that.. I'm looking into the lights off one of Stamford Police Crusiers... I'll mount the "Light Bar" on the roof... Hell I'll see the flashing light from the time-slip booth.. or from the tower if I'm talking "Strategy" with Ms Linke
