My '08 has 8k miles on it and I'm going to change the rear end and MZ6 trans fluids. I currently do not hear any rear end chatter. Recently, I searched the Tech/Perf section of my favorite forum and "Vet" has a great post from 2006 and I have read the 1/09 TSB. In my '05, I used Red Line D4 ATF for the trans and Red Line 75w90 gear oil w/4oz of friction modifier. I have a gallon of D4 ATF left so I would like to stick with that, but what about the rear? I would like to use Red Line again but it seems the new GM 88862624 (which has the friction modifier already in it) is working pretty well. Has the rear end changed since '05 or just the recommended maintenence? Anyone with an '08 use the Red Line.

Did you feel any difference from switching from the factory fill trans fluid to the Redline? Was it alot smoother and easier to shift? It was for me when I did that change.
On the rear end I can't tell.
Can anyone tell the difference in how the auto trans shift once you switch to Redline or Amsoil from factory? Or is it the same as the rear end diff where you can't tell.

I couldn't tell with the rear end, but the Amsoil atf made the tranny shift smoother and eliminated the "notchy shifting," for lack of a better term, when the tranny was cold.

Based on what I've read, I feel the majority of GMs change has been to increase the amount of friction modifier in their fluids. Most C6 users seem to have had very good luck with the AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 and one bottle of AMSOIL Slip-Lock Differential Additive. Not sure about Red Line and a bottle of additive. Haven't read too many posts about those using that with opinions one way or the other. I suspect that you'll be fine with the Red Line and one bottle of additive.
Thanks for all the replies. I chose to go with the Red Line D4 ATF for the trans and the new GM gear lube for the rear. I'll post my thoughts after I complete the swap.

I put Redline 75W/90 rear end gear oil in my other car months ago and it doesn't require any additional fluids to add to it. Hard to tell if it makes a difference in the rear end on that car but it sure did make a difference in shifting the manual transmission.

Let us know if you notice any differences in the rear end and auto trans after putting in Redline and Amsoil.

No difference... If anything, the trans is a little smoother shifting.
