Default DIY Camshaft Installation Question

A very generous Corvette Forum member (mikejfl) gave me the following parts that had been run in his '05 C6 for about 1000 miles before he decided to go with a bigger cam:

Vinci High Performance "Ultra Torque" cam:
DUR @ .004" 272*/280*
DUR @ .050" 210*/218*
LIFT .551/.551
OVERLAP 46*
LSA 116*
POWER RANGE 1500 TO 6000
PROVIDES VERY HIGH TORQUE GAINS
GREAT FUEL ECONOMY & POWER
NO TUNING REQUIRED
LIGHT THUMPY IDLE

Crane Gold 1.8 Roller Rockers with guideplates, rocker studs, and poly locks as well as a set of Crane hardened push rods.

I plan on installing the cam and rockers as a DIY project in my garage. I've been reading the CF archives for installation tips and how-to articles and have found a lot of good information. I'm no stranger to working on cars but do not have any experience specifically with LSX engines.

So, to the point of my post, I'm trying to compile a complete list of parts that I still need to purchase to complete the installation. I know I need a crankshaft bolt and a set of springs. I have a general idea of the other parts I need but I'm looking for input from you guys to confirm whether I am on the right track or not.

What parts would you guys have on hand to complete this project? Timing chain? What specific gaskets and seals? Any suggestions on specific springs for the project?

Also, does anybody know of a camshaft installation writeup that is specific to the LS2 in a Corvette? I've seen the LS7 writeups and I'm sure they are very similar but it would be nice to see pics and a writeup specific to my car.

I just want to compile as much information as possible before I tear into the engine since this is my daily driver. I'd like to complete the project in a long weekend and want to ensure I have everything ready ahead of time.

Thanks!!

You probably will want to replace the timing chain. Most people do. I didnt replace mine and its been great but thats up to you. You will need a new timing chain cover gasket, and I would either purchase a new oil pump while your in there or shim the new one by removing the bolt and spring in the bottom and either replacing the bolt with a longer one or installing a washer inside the bolt to push the spring up. You will need new radiator fluid since you have to pull it to get in there. Dont forget your harmonic balancer puller either and a bottle of moly lube for the cam. As for springs I would go with patriot, comp, or tea, they should all be pretty comprable to each other on you have a really low lift cam so your springs arent going to be under a lot of stress. I would also replace the belts while your in there. I dont recall but I think you need a new water pump gasket as well because that comes off too I think. I would definetly pick up a tech manual. I remeber reading that when you line up the cam sprockets on the ls2 the dots dont go dot to dot but are at the 12 and 130 posistions. Its been posted before I know it. Hope this helps and good luck.

Thanks for the additional information. I have the three volume service manual set but it always helps me to talk to people that have actually done the job and get their advice before jumping in. I'm still searching the net and the CF archives for all I can find before getting started. I'll probably tackle it next weekend.

Andybody else have advice??

I used the service Manuals for the Vette and the LS1 link below to do my cam change out.

It was fun to do.
