Default Rivet Nut Tips

When replacing the skid bars/ radiator support I found the new part did not have the threaded inserts pre-installed. Also, the unit bolts up to the same type nuts on the frame horns although larger. I have heard installing them without the rivet gun is difficult so I wanted to share my method which was successful. I used an M6 bolt long enough to go through a coupling nut, which is basically a long nut which is much less likely to strip while tightening, two hardened washers then to the end of the rivet nut. Place this assembly into the hex shaped hole, hold the bolt with a wrench and tighten down on the coupling nut. You can feel the rivet nut compressing as you tighten. There will be less wiggle to the nut as the metal sides compress to the back of the material. I just got them tighter than snug and expect they compresed as much as needed when I tightened the fasteners to the proper torque setting. Done!
