Default Tire Wear Question

I have a set of BFG gForce tires. Really like them and my question is, at what wear point (tread depth) does the performance start to degrade to the point where performance and "stickiness" in cornering would be a safety concern. I am not talking about HPDE type driving just normal agressive cornering from time to time while enjoying a few curvy roads? I have 7/32 of tread left on the fronts anf 6/32 left on the rears.

We've been told 2/32" on OEM tires for the C6. I would think that would probably be about right for all brands of tires.

Guys that road race in SCCA classes that require DOT street tires will actually shave down new tires to a minimum tread depth- they need to show "some" tread at the end of the race. Less tread block squirm- sort of approaches a slick tire. Not good in the rain!

Generally, I'd agree with this, but there are a lot of factors to consider not least of which is how the tires have worn and conditions of the road. Obviously, as said above, if you've got lots of rain, to a point the less tread depth you have the more the tendency/possibility to skid. However, with less tread depth it is possible that you might actually have a slight increase in dry road handling, up to a point!!! That's mitigated to an extent by a potential reduction in puncture resistance as tread depth goes down. I've put enough caveats in here to make you wonder, or at least I do. And that's why I'd stick with what Jim wrote.
