Default Restricted MAF?

While cleaning my MAF senser on my 07 C6 A6. I noticed the MAF is constructed of two pieces. One is metal and the other is plastic. If you look at the MAF from the rear side you will notice the metal part overhangs the plastic part like a mismatched intake head port by a considerable amount. Running a finger over this metal overhang further reveals what feels like a ridge left from the casting mold. My question is, if you port the metal and/or remove the ridge to match the plastic size. Will this upset the MAF calibration or otherwise ruin the unit ?

Look, we port just about everything else for improvement. What about some input on this? Anyone?

I probably wouldnt touch it. Its a pretty sensitive piece of electrical equipment than can be miscalibrated pretty easily. Mine got all screwed up by a piece of grass that some how slipped in there.

My educated guess would be a small improvement may be seen. However you would need the hands of a surgeon to accomplish the work without disturbing the sensor elements.
