Default I don't believe it.

My local chevy dealer says that if he does a tune, throttle body and cool thermostat that I will get 40-50 more HP. Is this true? How much HP will I get with a throttle body?

Very possible, though not actual rwhp.

TB will mostly give you 8-12rwhp (possibly more) under the curve with only a few peak since you are still @ 90mm opening. You will need a CAI though.

I don't either,, Sounds like a lot of smoke! Need least headers and tune to get those numbers. TB is not worth it on stock motor, Tstat does nothing, Tune MAYBE some 5-10.

You have right, tb 1-2 maybe, stat 0, tune 5 maybe 10. I'd say 10 tops.

Tune only 5-10 hp. I call bs on all of you. I gained 26rwhp on a tune and intake. And since there is no intake in the world worth 26rwhp alone the tune was worth most of that.

Yes, 5-10 for a tune on a stock car. Intakes are usually good for 10-12 or so.(some claim higher) 10+12 =22. I'd say that pretty darn close. So where is the bs?

I would have to see the numbers to believe it. Yes you will get some gains, but 40-50 I don't know.

Not sure who you are addressing. Nobody named dude in this post.
Will it make 25-30 hp? Yes, that's what I said. So he's close? Yes, that what I said. Not sure what your point is? My point is that the base car will only get 5-10 hp on a basic tune. Batmobile says we are all full of bs. I say we are not. What do you say?

The " Dealer " is only talking about 40-50 BHP. He is not talking about actual 40-50RWHP.

Thats really about 30-40rwhp and with a ported TB, really good tune, stat (only needed for timing/temp) and a CAI (not listed as an option) it would be very very possible to get 30-40rwhp. Jeez.

Tune should be worth 5-10. I got 9hp, but about 15tq over just the headers. Is this a LS3? Remeber they come pig rich from the factory. Mine was in the neighborhood of 10.5:1.. I wonder what software the dealer is going to use. As for the TB, I ported my own this winter and added a ported intake manifold too. The seat dyno tells me there is some gain there. I'm spinning the supercars on the 2-3 shift and that never happened before. Maybe just snappier throttle response, but the car is more fun to drive..

Gains depend on the car, the tuner, the tune, and even where you are. My '06 was anemic from the factory, and went from ~330 rwhp to ~360 rwhp with just a CAI and tune. LG long tubes took it to ~390 rwhp, ~400tq. Surprising that a dealer is willing to tune your car, but a good tune is certainly worth the $$ IMO. Good luck.

I would expect 15rwhp from a tune MINIMUM if you have any competence in what you are doing.

It would be safe to assume you'd pickup atleast 20rwhp with a tune and ported throttlebody.

Another 10rwhp if you add a cold air intake.

People saying 5-10rwhp for a tune on a stock car either have no idea what they're talking about, had a poor tuner, or had a freak car that wasnt pig-rich from the factory.

You have a ls2 m6, yes I'd agree it was anemic. On a dynojet they should dyno at 345 and for some reason yours was 15 short. In your case I can see why it produced larger than typical results. The cai and tune usually yield 15 hp which would raise the typical car to 360 which is exactly where you were at. Headers usually produce 25-30 and there you are. The tuner can make a difference but the stock car, except in your case, is usually tuned pretty good. The a/f ratio being the main item to tune, torque management doesn't add hp but helps performance. I also am suprised the dealer would mess with the tune.

Some tuners are notorious for fudging dyno #'s. A shop who did my dyno came up with very low before #'s. When I pointed out to him that my #'s he did a year earlier were 35hp higher( he forgot he worked on the car at that time) he didnt know what to say and finally came up with " Well we took it easy so the car wouldnt be hot when we start working on it"!
If they soft pedal the car the gains are that much better for them. Not that they all do that but it is one of the tricks of the trade.
